From the animal park via dripstone caves, mountain cable cars and art and culture to the train ride: there is plenty to discover around Bleiburg and the Jauntal in any weather.

From the Pirkdorfer See at 10 minutes to Lake Klopein, Europe's warmest bathing lake, at 20. Which lake suits which day, with measured water temperatures, has a page of its own.

Two show caves right on the doorstep: the Griffen dripstone cave, one of Austria's most colourful, and the Obir caves with their striking light and sound staging. A treat in any weather.
Easy family walks and scenic spots, often just a few minutes away.

It is around 2.5 km to Bleiburg station (about 8 minutes downhill by bike). With the Aktiv Card you travel for free on all ÖBB S-Bahn lines across Carinthia (S-Bahn and REX, photo ID required). Trains run roughly hourly.

The Styrian capital with its UNESCO old town, the Schlossberg with the clock tower and the Mur island. Via the new Koralm railway (change in St. Paul) a comfortable day in the city. Griffen Abbey · free entry
The Nobel laureate in literature was born in Griffen. In the former abbey a lovingly curated permanent exhibition tells of his life and work, easy to combine with the cave and the castle ruin. Show more
